"Experience is a myriad richness. We think more than we can say. We feel more than we can think. We live more than we can feel, and there is much more still." ~Eugene Gendlin
I support people who want to better understand their life decisions, relationships, and sense of self. Often people come to therapy for support to process issues stemming from their family of origin, or because they are struggling in some aspect of their romantic partnership, or they feel stuck in some aspect of their life. I believe that our current experiences are influenced by the contexts we have lived in throughout our lives, including our earliest childhood relationships with caregivers, our partnerships and peer relationships, the communities and larger systems that have impacted our lives. In working with individuals, I help to guide conversations that develop more consideration of the ways in which these different facets of life can impact your individual experience. I listen carefully for themes and patterns that tend to reoccur in your life and relationships, areas of life where there is discomfort or tension, your unique strengths as an individual, as well as the interaction that is unfolding between us in the moment as we talk. I am careful to create a safe space for you to feel comfortable discussing aspects of life that may feel painful or that would otherwise bring about uncomfortable feelings such as shame, sadness, anger, loneliness or fear, among others. Through communicating about these difficult feelings, people often experience a sense of relief. Through this process, acceptance can develop for those aspects of life that were difficult to look at. New ways of relating to self and others begin to emerge that allow for more of a sense of possibility in life. I create this safe space by interacting with you non-judgmentally, collaborating with you at every step of the way, and conveying warmth and empathy towards your experience. I believe that each person has a treasure of inner wisdom and resilience which I strive to help them to tap into.
My approach to therapy with individuals is primarily relational, psychodynamic, and trauma informed. When appropriate, I also integrate other theories and approaches, including but not limited to neuroscience and attachment research, mindfulness, somatic and cognitive approaches.

"Tamara strikes me as thoughtful, empathetic, and patient, and therefore able to provide a safe space for clients. Her approach is trauma informed, and psychodynamically oriented, although she also draws on other therapeutic perspectives when appropriate." ~Dr. Kata Galasi, Psyd (colleague/ peer consultant)
